The mission of the Good Shepherd Food-Bank is to provide food for those at risk of hunger by soliciting surplus food and distributing it to non-profit programs throughout Maine, and in doing so to do the work of Jesus, who is the Good Shepherd.
Founded in 1981, the Good Shepherd Food-Bank is the only nationally recognized Food-Bank in the State of Maine, serving over 350 non-profit agencies and distributing almost 7 million pounds of food in 2000. The Good Shepherd Food-Bank is a 501(c)(3) federally tax-exempt program and does not receive any government or federal funding.
