Backpack Project

Did you know?

24.2% of children age 18 and under live below the US poverty level (Maine KIDS COUNT Data Book). Many families in Oxford County struggle to purchase necessary school supplies each year. With kind support from the community United Way of Oxford County is able to deliver backpacks stuffed with school supplies to the area schools. We believe in setting kids up to succeed on the first day of school. Here's how the Backpack Project works:

1. Through kind donations from LL Bean, John T. Gorman Foundation, and the Rotary Club of Oxford Hills we're able to secure over 300 backpacks.

2. We reach out to members of our community to donate school supplies to stuff in each of the backpacks. We have drop off locations at Key Bank in Norway and will be collecting school supplies at the August Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce After Hours.

3. We deliver the backpacks to all the school systems, and they give the backpacks to kids most in need.

It's that simple! Because of the help from organizations that care, and with help from generous community members like you, we all are able to set school aged-kids up with the tool they need to succeed.
